German Dance Platform 2012
24 sold-out performances // changes successfully established
The DANCE PLATFORM GERMANY 2012 has come to a successful end today.
Nearly 500 professionals from around the world visited Dresden from
February 23 to 26.
24 out of 33 performances were sold out. Next to the many organizers,
choreographers and dancers, the programme of the GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM
found enormous approval of the Dresden audience.
Dieter Jaenicke, artistic director of this year's organizer HELLERAU -
European Centre for the Arts Dresden, concluded: "This dance platform
should not only be a marketplace and an experts' meeting for the
organizers, but an important event for the city."
More than 6,900 tickets were sold at the venues HELLERAU, Kleines Haus, Schauspielhaus, Aula and the Loge of the Heinrich-Schütz-Conservatory. The dress rehearsal of Sasha Waltz's "Metamorphoses" was sold out, as well as the premiere within the supporting programme of the Semper Opera Ballet showing "An evening with the works of William Forsythe".
The new concept of GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM in its tenth edition has proven
its worth:
In addition to the ten jury-selected choreographies, the co-organizers
have invited the most important representatives of German dance theatre
in the form of Sasha Waltz & Guests, The Forsythe Company, Meg Stuart /
Damaged Goods and Constanza Macras / Dorky Park. With them, the
attractiveness of the GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM has increased not only for
international guests.
The newly introduced format of the pitching was very much appreciated:
Another ten choreographers presented their work within a 30-minute time
slot to the public.
Furthermore, the dance experts discussed in various panels the actual state of contemporary dance and its future perspective.
The DANCE PLATFORM GERMANY 2012 was supported by the Beauftragten der
Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, Ostdeutschen Sparkassen
Foundation together with Ostsächsischen Sparkasse Dresden and the
Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen.
Kampnagel Hamburg will host the GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM 2014.
