In micro-choreographies for four performers, the human face becomes a truly theatrical stage. Each face leads a life of its own, regardless of who it belongs to. Up close. Penetrating looks, a winking eye, trembling nostrils, a wrinkling brow – this is enough material for Baehr’s sharp, humorous composition, drawing the spectator’s attention to the fictitious potential within everyday life as well as in theatre. In this way, she turns the focus on to the role and attitude of the spectator and makes For Faces also a piece about the audience.
“Everything is regulated. So nothing is certain. Covertly or openly, stage directions and scores depend on their choreographic performance. Constrained within liberating corsets of instructions, bodies can demonstrate their strength here – the inability to do something ‘right’.” (Constanze Klementz, Die Welt)
Choreographer, director and Film and Media Arts graduate Antonia Baehr has been based in Berlin, where she founded the performance group ex machinis, since 2000. She first gained broad recognition with her piece Lachen (2008). In the same year, she published her first book, Rire / Laugh / Lachen.
